Description:
The purpose of this position is to meet the culturally related educational needs of American Indian students. The Anishinaabe Language Teacher/Cultural coordinator teaches the Anishinaabe language and culture to students in grades 8 - 12 at Cook County Schools and is responsible for school wide cultural programming. The position is housed in Cook County Schools in Grand Marais, but is an employee of the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.

Education:
Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent life experience and training; experience working with and teaching Anishinaabe students and communities is required; knowledge of Anishinaabe language and culture is required. Other assets include technological literacy, grant writing abilities, leadership, and advocacy skills.

Qualifications:
Minnesota Teaching License preferred, or eligibility to become licensed via an Eminence Credential; must have and maintain a valid driver's license.

 

Grand Portage requires a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing for all positions. American Indian Preference will apply.
