Description:
Supervises and mentors a crew of four GOCC crew members, ages 17-35, (17-30 for all applicants, 30-35 for military veterans). Coordinates and leads the day-to-day operations of the field crew to complete a diversity of projects for multiple agencies and park partners. Projects may include trail maintenance, hazard tree removal, vegetation view-shed management, maintaining natural resource monitoring equipment. Assists in training crew members in areas including, but not limited to, field and park safety protocols, proper tool use, sawyer certification, wildland fire certifications, and Leave No trace principles. Maintains a safe working environment and enforce the use of appropriate personal protective equipment.

Education:
High school diploma/GED equivalent. At least one-year in a college program, leading to an associate or bachelor's degree in outdoor recreation, land management, or related field. Six-months experience in outdoor education, park operations, or supervising conservation or youth crew preferred. Must possess a current driver's license.

Qualifications:
Must be over 18 years of age. Must demonstrate six months or more of previous experience in coordinating and leading crews on a variety of conservation, resource, and recreation management tasks and projects. Previous experience in training and providing leadership on all aspects of work-place safety. Must be able to communicate in a professional manner with managers, community members, public and crew. Over-night travel and camping may be required within the park, the Superior National Forest/Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, and Isle Royale National Park.

 

Grand Portage requires a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing for all positions. American Indian Preference will apply.
