Description:
The project will provide regional tribal youth the opportunity to develop hands-on cultural resource management and research skills in a National Park setting and provide an intimate place-based connection to Minong by creating an opportunity for tribal youth to acquire cultural resource research and management skills while at the same time connecting to Minong, which was extremely important to the lifeways of their ancestors.
Education:
High school diploma, college students, or recent college graduates (must be between 18 and 30, or 18 to 35 if a veteran)
Qualifications:
Must be able to bend, lift, climb, stand and walk for long periods of time. Able to perform moderately heavy laboring work. Able to lift heavy items (e.g, packs up to 50 lbs) and carry them on a routine basis, some familiarity (or strong desire) with working in a backcountry environment. Sustained periods of camping under primitive conditions are routine on Isle Royale. Experience with camping is not required; however, applicant will be expected to camp on occasion. Most of the camping equipment will be provided; however, candidate will need to supply their own sleeping bag.
Grand Portage requires a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing for all positions. American Indian Preference will apply.
