Description:
This is a crew lead position that requires intensive public contact and weekend hours. The employee will manage boat inspections, public outreach and boat decontamination operations at the Grand Portage Lodge and Casino Marina. The Lead Watercraft Inspector will be part of a two-person crew dedicated to inspecting and pressure-washing all recreation and fishing boats operating on Lake Superior leaving from and returning to the marina. The specific purpose of the program is to reduce introductions of both zebra and quagga mussels into the Lake Superior ecosystem. Duties will include set up, operation and occasional maintenance of the trailer-mounted pressure washer (and berm/underlayment) system. Inspectors will routinely communicate with boat owners/operators and perform public outreach on the causes, effects, and mitigation efforts of aquatic invasive species in Lake Superior.

Education:
High school diploma/GED or equivalent. Previous experience in a conservation or land management field such as wildlife biology or wildland fire preferred.

Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age or older. Must possess a CURRENT DRIVER'S LICENSE.

 

Grand Portage requires a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing for all positions. American Indian Preference will apply.
